Why Strategy Games Work Better on Phones Than You'd Think
I used to be a strategy snob — mouse and keyboard or nothing. Phones changed my mind, and it's mostly about how you play, not what you play.
Turn-based games in particular thrive on mobile because you can pause your whole life mid-decision. Missed a bus, waiting for coffee, a spare five minutes — that's a turn. The stop-start rhythm actually suits deliberate play.
The good developers design around a thumb. Radial menus, drag-to-preview, generous tap targets. The bad ones just shrink a PC interface and hope. You learn to spot the difference fast.
So my recommendation: don't dismiss a genre because of the platform. Some of my favorite tactical moments this year happened on a four-inch screen in a waiting room.
